The solar lid determines when it is dark or light out and automatically turns the lights on or off when powered by a AAA battery (not included). There is also an on/off switch in the jar.
*** Leaving the lights coiled and lightly pulling the main string a little longer so the coiled lights sit on the bottom of jar is recommended. It gives it a nice glow from the bottom and illuminates the design nicely. The lights and wires don’t interrupt the look of the design that way. With the jar being frosted the wire shadows are more noticeable when all uncoiled in my opinion.
*** The Jar is not UV protected and not intended to stay outside all of the time. The solar lid determines when it is dark or light out and automatically turns the lights on or off when powered by a AAA battery. You don’t need to charge the lid with sunlight. Being in constant sunlight will fade the design. You could spray it with a UV protectant to possibly help prolong the life of the design if you choose to leave it outside at all times.
